Book 2, chapter 7
The people of Damar arrive to Solus, together with the Kundali folk. Vallirian and Governor Morga must gather them inside the City, where defense is already prepared, where all the goods and supplies are safeguarded.
War is coming.

– lembrou-lhe Vallirian.
Morga apertou-lhe ombros, estreitou lábio e acedeu à situação:
- Sim, chegámos.

They descended back to Gates, and their passage turned easier, for Morga came ahead, with eight decuries of Royal Guard; a threatening cavalry that forced traffic apart. And when he saw Vallirian arrive through great archway, the Governor raised an arm and ordered a full halt. Then, with a jump, he dismounted the horse, removed the ample crested helmet, and pulled the boy to an embrace.
"Val, my boy, you warned us in time!" Morga spoke. "The desert's patrols arrived soon after, frantic, and reporting a great march of Kratoi." He pushed slightly the prince by shoulders, and gazed at his eyes with lament: "A thousand lightning upon them! We left too much behind. Food, supplies and weapons… and all the corn and barley, the crops ready for harvest!"
"You arrived, Uncle, safe and sound. That's what matters most!" Vallirian reminded him.
Morga gripped his shoulders tighter, pressed the lips and ceded:
"Yes, we did."

Book 2, chapter 6
Queen Sura awaits in Solus, and Vallirian has much to tell. It's time to prepare the War against Balor, for he comes swiftly, with death and destruction.

Beyond Central Harbour, they reached the White Street, wide and flanked by date palm trees; so pure in the limestone chiselled, the marble in each flower bed, the imposing Temple of Ifri, at their left, welcoming with giant archway. And ahead, at the top of large stairway, the Palace awaited with opened gates, with soldiers and noble gents filled, with court and Queen.
Swiftly the news had arrived, but not by message, spoken word or written sign. Sura was still Avatara, and she needed not a herald to know of the blood at her heart ignited, the sight that made her stumble through stairs, the anxious arms stretched, aching for young son.
"Vallirian!" She throatily called, to the boy that jumped down the horse and sprinted to stairway – vigorous was his run, the tears on a furious face.
"Mother!" Val answered. He embraced her strong, burying the lips in locks of white hair.

Book 2, chapter 5
There's no relief in the arrival to Damar. They must warn the Governor Morga, and eveyone else, so they too can flee from the coming danger. And only the Citadel of Solus can offer sure protection!

The arrival of snake-people was noticed soon. Bells were rang and horns blown, for since the young Kundali raid to garners, the Governor had tightened the scouting of desert, and all around, the militia patrolled in pairs, day and night. So they met the resistance, the two lines of spears and bows that awaited between crops and wall.
In the front was bailiff Rulo, wearing a helmet that covered all but the curly beard. His linotorax was slovenly strapped, certainly by lack of use, or training, and yet, with valiant pose, he commanded the militia with spatha in hand, the unsheathed weapon too heavy in each gesture. He shouted but once, upon seeing the many Kundali that crossed the cornfields, and his men answered promptly, by aiming the long spears, by cocking arrows in each bow. So they threatened, the two hundred green painted aspis , showing clear the arms of the Kadah; the sheaf of yellow stalks.

Book 2, chapter 4
This is it! The first encounter against Balor! Will Vallirian and companions be able to escape the Wall-of-the-Moon?
When I was writing the book, this chapter was the best candidate to the end of the 1st book. But that would mean a 1st book larger than the 2nd, and a bitter ending that I didn't want the readers to suffer.

"It's Black Magic!" The princess of Argo whispered.
Cold air surrounded them, turned their breaths to haze, and over the resin walls of the Hall-of-a-hundred Windows, smoke crackled and emerged.
A ribbon of black and red came, coiled a spiral over abyss and bridges' ruin, and floated to the Hall's entrance. It stopped there, in front of Ulfric and Chief-Warriors, hovering, thickening, and finally, like aura or cocoon, it took shape of a blurred black cloak. A golden helmet shone, smudged in rock's oil. Its shape was like those of Solus; the longer nape and chin guard, the reinforced line along forehead, the crossed crest engraved with sunrays, and the red mane, now dishevelled. A metal mask hid the face; a titan's mug with curly beard and thick eyebrows, the visage of tempest and fury where deep and darkened were the eye sockets, where pursed mouth recalled the storm's blow, the chaos and power. That helmet, that mask… Ulfric knew it well. It belonged to Egon, son of Sura, the Terror of Turquoise Sea.

Book 2, chapter 3
The combat is hard, the sacrifice strained. But the Portal must hold, for the future of the Kundali is at stake.

- Quebrem a ponte! – gritou Vallirian.

Mah-Goh took a chance, then, after swing of a head-butt; he pulled the jembu upwards, the ascending blow straight to giant's slashed muzzle. The impact crushed teeth and bone, and torn the beast's head onto a mess of blood and flesh. The back step, the freak's stutter, all seemed sure in that moment, but its bone and iron maul still swung a vengeance, and almost caught the Kundali by surprise. He dove, quick in the dodge, but not enough to avoid the glance of massive weapon that broke two of his back plates. Yet, the danger of blow brought Mah-Goh's rage; with a roar, with scorpion mace held tight in both hands, he caught the aberration's flank, crushed the bone armour, pushed meat like mighty ram. The monster was cast out of bridge, and still it tried an aimless claw, but there was no salvation there, only nothingness at its grasp. So it ended, the goliath, with a silent fall to dark abyss, against passages that crumbled under its weight.
"Smash the bridge!" Shouted Vallirian.

Book 2, chapter 2
Minos readies a last Portal in Wall-of-the-Moon. But Balor is coming fast, and time seems to run out for the Kundali.

O calor e a luz do sol fugiam rápidos; a medo, esqueciam as cores douradas do poente e despachavam a noite antes de tempo.

At the top, grabbing a high pike of rock and resin, flogged by gale, Minos watched the South - the worried frown, the bitten lip.
Vallirian stopped at his side, without questions, only a gaze at the horizon. A thick blackness advanced there, a terrible sea. With it raised the dust, and thunderous clouds hastened through the sky, in fury entwined. Warmth and sunlight fled; a fear pushing the golden dusk away onto untimely night. And the wind, it raised majestic, availing its time to rule.
They could hear the grave noises, the deep grind, as if earth chewed the rock in lengthy and defiant meal.
"It's him!" Val growled, leaning between Minos' shoulder and rock spike.

Book 2, chapter 1
Vallirian and companions arrive to Wall-of-the-Moon. The Kundali Tribes await them there, but so does the enemy, and with the majestic structure surrounded, only Minos' Magic can save them now.

Pteh-Sa advanced between Mah-Goh and Me-Silah, and tried peaceful words in husky voice:
"The old are free to stay. Their choice is honourable!" Then, with a sigh, she reminded of better future. "But the kundali young still yearn for children, and so they must choose hope."
"Ani speak of death, of defending the Desert, but they forget the warning of Magua!" Shella intervened, boldly walking amidst the gathered elders. "Do you really know what Dimah-Moyi-lo is?" She asked with stern voice and frown.
The old males and females traded mumbles. One of them, a grumpy they called Ilu-Uhré, garbed in leather and leaned over chiselled bone cane, he groaned an answer:
"Death is Death! Spirit returns to earth, and the body rots."
Shella smiled at him, grinning with crimson lips, adding irony to rough speech:
"Neyo Ani! Dimah-Moyi-lo is Black Magic! The body rots, but doesn't die, it becomes a slave to Evil! And the Spirit, it does not return to earth, it is trapped and tortured. Dimah-Moyi-lo is nightmare without end!"
The elder goggled, and filled with doubt, he sought support of other mates. But it was futile, for both males and females finally awakened to irrational fear.
Shella pointed them a finger, then, and more ignited this terror that conquered stubbornness:
"You want Death? Then come with the Tribes, be Kundali! We will have plenty of battles, and good earth for the resting Spirits. But do not stay here, to join the Khau, to be old Rak-a-Dimah, the Dead that Walk, with teeth and claws against child and grandchild!"
