Chapter 13 Illustration

He joined his father at the Judge’s Table, dropping the book with disdain over white linen, the loud and dry thump the only sound amidst longing silence.
“What is this book? I don’t recall it…” Questioned the School’s Principal.
Curiously, Himillicus examined the lining, of strange polished and waxed skin. He decided to untie the cord, the cape and first sheet opened over table. Malach leaned at his side, sharing the view and work revealed.

Minos Mandraklion stands before the Masters. His judgement is, hopefully, a simple disciplinary matter.

After the finished record of the events, Malach tried to clarify the motif. He fondled the black moustache and in loud voice gave word to thoughts, for all present should take notice:
“In this Arcane School’s Libraries, there isn't a single book of summoning that teaches the Plane of Kur. Only in the tomes of Worlds and Arcane Essence there is reference to it.” His gaze was deep, pressuring Minos with doubt. “Where did the student Mandraklion find it, then? The mystic pattern for the summoning? What foul book or profane writing revealed him the path to Kur?”

With legs crossed she sat, over a mattress of cotton and straw, over a simple wooden bed. An old embroidered codex rested on her lap, its sheets carefully held with thin fingers, her eyes focused in reading. Yet, she stopped and stared at the prince; two emerald-green eyes glowed sharply under the lamp light. Shadows were cast softly over her oval face, a straight line following her forehead and nose, down to full crimson lips. From curvy chin to jawline, two little crests of orange colour were discreetly drawn. Her shapely body was olive-green, the scaly skin turned soft and gold from face to belly. Still silent, the prisoner leaned head, straightened an arm and waved, inviting the guest to closer company.

Under the Arcane School, a mysterious prisoner awaits the visit of Vallirian.

- Está vazia, a cela. – comentou Chullain, de testa encostada à porta e inclinando o olhar.
- Estão todas vazias, menos uma. – assegurou Himillicus.

“This one is empty.” Chullain remarked. He kept forehead against the door, leaning his stare left and right.
“All of them are empty, except one.” Himillicus assured. He walked to the last door on the right side, gesturing to the group and explaining: “The Arcane School is no prison, and never will it be one. Yet, as you probably understand, building a containment area was a wise decision. These cells are locked by magic, and any use of mystical energies is denied. There’s no escape from them.”

Two blue cloaked students in their fourth year trained summoning, exchanging skills like in a duel. With blue flash and deep sound a mystical circle appeared over the worn stoned floor. From the inside came a striped monkey, its fur long and garish. The creature bawled nervously, running all over, climbing shelves and knocking books down. Frustrated were the attempts, the commands of the summoner, and to it his partner laughed, adding foolish advices for the creature’s control.

The arrival to the School of Arcane Magic starts with a proper meal. What mysteries will they find?

Chullain was amazed, he gazed around anxiously, with Vallirian and Calipso following close. He dared a touch to a cabinet’s door, but was quickly warned by the Arcane Master’s voice:
“Hold your hand, boy! There are dangerous artefacts and books of outer Magic in here, things that must not be disturbed.”
After confirming that the redhead warrior had given up the curious act, Himillicus pointed ahead, to another sturdy door at the end of room. When Chullain touched the lid of a big black wooden chest, a sculpted trunk with huge handle where two demons intertwined, the elder still remarked without looking back:
“Things of Black Magic, able to cast wounds on your flesh and rip your soul apart.”

Beyond an open wall, where a set of strapped logs served as door and was placed aside with lack of any use, they could see the first houses of mortar and wood made: the homes of peasants and vineyard workers. Further ahead stood the great garners and must-houses, where wine was extracted in large presses. Already cobbled, the road ascended to a first plateau, branching to the labyrinths of Naquad: a mix of wooden houses, of stone and mortar, connected and intertwined in a network of passages, alleys and floors, all built over slope of the great hill. To a second plateau the road climbed, its width still wide, passing by the many cellars built inside rocky earth and natural caves. Frames of wooden logs reinforced the dozen archways, marking each entrance.
